It is God’s Will that you memorize His Word. Get that settled in your heart and mind. God wants you to do this! And that means that He will help you. Remind yourself of these verses: Deuteronomy 6:6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. Deuteronomy 11:18 You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul. Psalm 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip. Psalm 40:8 I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you… Hiding God’s Word in your heart can be one of the greatest spiritual blessings of your life.
What memorizing God's Word will do for you: (These are just a few of the benefits of memorizing the Word of God.) 1. It will give you victory over sin Memorizing Scripture will train you in the use of your sword – The Sword of the Spirit. Millions of God’s people down through the ages have found that when they memorize Scripture that it is a powerful weapon in their daily battle over temptation. God’s Word will keep you from sin! Psalm 119: 11 (KJV) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Jesus Christ had done this and when He was tempted in the wilderness He didn’t have a copy of God’s written Word with Him, but He was able to successfully defeat Satan in temptation because He had faithfully hidden great hunks of God’s Word in His heart.
2. It will give you confidence and boldness in witnessing When a Christian memorizes key verses word perfect it helps them to overcome their fears in sharing their faith. Scripture memory will help you prepare yourself to become an effective and powerful witness for Jesus Christ. God will use you in powerful ways when His Word is readily available in your heart and mind.
3. It will give God the Holy Spirit more weapons and ammunition for you to use in spiritual warfare Every verse you memorize gives the Holy Spirit another powerful verse with which to bless you, fortify you and encourage you throughout your life.
4. It will help you overcome fear and worry The active Word of God in your heart will be a powerful antidote against worry and anxiety. With God’s Word hidden in your heart you can keep your mind stayed on God and He promised that He would keep us in perfect peace if we kept our minds stayed on Him. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
5. It will feed your soul! God’s Word is our nourishment and spiritual food. It will keep you spiritually healthy and fit. I Peter 2:2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.
6. It will prepare you for future battles and times of testing and trials Someone once said that memorizing Scripture is like stocking the “pantry of your soul and heart”. You will be prepared and equipped for whatever happens in the future. God will direct you to memorize key verses that will be so necessary and helpful later on. He knows what you will face in the future and he will help you as you discipline yourself to learn God’s Word by heart.
