I Grew up in Tyler, Texas and graduated from John Tyler High School. During my high school years, I was involved in a Bible quizzing program. There was a lot of memorization involved. I believe as a result of that, being saturated in the scriptures, I sensed God’s call upon my life to be a pastor.
I am a pastor and I’m currently at my 3rd pastorate. I was at my first pastorate for 16 years in New Windsor, New York. I pastored in Kilgore, Texas for 13 years and I am in my current pastorate as of 2015.
My wife is an Elementary Education Teacher. When we had children, she quit to be at home with them and homeschooled our children for five years. My son graduated from High School in May of 2008 and my daughter graduated from High School in May of 2010.
Family life rates very highly to me. I’m committed to having both a strong marriage and raising my children in a way pleasing to God. I can’t do that apart from God’s Word. What better way to help out children than to give them the Word of God? Malachi 4 speaks of turning the hearts of parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents. I’ve never viewed it as the church's responsibility to teach my kids. As a parent, it’s my responsibility to teach and train my children (not the schools, churches, or the government). Our churches will only be as strong as our families. This is a great resource for home-schoolers.
During the past few years, I’ve recognized the tremendous need for being a disciple maker. This is an essential for the church today. It’s my desire to serve God with a ‘perfect’ love. That kind of love is evident by how I love others. My goal is not to be religious, ‘doing ‘things’ for God, but ‘daring to trust God to do what only God can do: giving life, making somebody’s out of nobody’s, saints out of sinners’ (The Message).
